Tel Zion is a settlement 15 km North of Jerusalem. It is a chareidi settlement that borders a religious zionist community called Kochav Ya’akov. The two communities share health care services etc.
Tel Zion is home to around 1,000 families and Kochav Ya’akov around 600 families. Most of the residents work or study in Jerusalem and many depend on the excellent and affordable public transportation system.
There is an active and growing Chabad community in Tel Zion and in Kochav Ya’akov. There are Chabad shuls, schools and a mikva. A Tzivos Hashem community provides regular programs for the kids. Shiurim and farbrengens for adults take place regularly, and there is an active N’shei.
Shuls
Rabbi Yeshayahu Alporovitz heads the Chabad community and shul in Tel Zion. His wife is an English speaker.
Rabbi Yosef Minsky heads the Chabad community and shul in Kochav Ya’akov. He speaks English.
Schools
There is a Chabad preschool and a Chabad elementary school for girls through 8th grade and boys until bar mitzva. There is also an option to send children on organized buses to school in Jerusalem.
Food/Kashrut
There are small corner stores (makolets) that carry most food items including fresh produce and dairy products. Of Anash delivers meat/chicken/fish once a week.
Mikva
There is one Chabad mikva for the community.
