Twenty five km east of Tel Aviv lies the community of Elad. Elad is a religious city of over 36,000 people. Among those are about 120 Chabad families.
The Chabad community is led by Rabbi Zalman Yeruslowsky who is also the head of the semicha program in Kiryat Gat.
Shuls
There are three shuls in Elad. Beit Menachem Shul on Ibn Gavirol in Rova ‘A’. Derech Mitzvotecha Shul on Rabbi Chiya St. in Rova ‘C’. The Beit Chabad of Elad on Shamai St. is in the neighborhood Neve Yitzchak.
Schools
There are five preschools for Chabad boys, three preschools for Chabad girls and one special needs preschool as well. They are government funded preschools.
Pe’er Menachem Talmud Torah houses grades one through eight. It has around 200 students with class sizes of around 22 kids and is located in Rova ‘C’. Although it’s officially a Chabad Chareidi school, in reality it has modern approaches to the overall well being of it’s students and their relationships with the rebbes. They even have an in-school drama and art club.
Pe’er Menachem’s sister school is Tiferet Chaya school for girls. Tiferet Chaya houses grades one through eight. It also has around 200 students with class sizes of around 22 kids. It’s also in Rova ‘C’.
The yeshiva ketana of Tomchei Temimim is located in Rova ‘D’. The Rosh Yeshiva is HaRav Asher Belinov. The facilities are a group of caravans and include a dorm for the approximately 90 temimim.
Mikva
There is one Chabad women’s mikva in Elad. It is located in the Neve Yitzchak neighborhood.
Community Resources
There is a Chabad library with thousands of books located in the Neve Yitzchak neighborhood. For immigrant families this is a great asset. To try and keep up with what books your newly Israeli kids/teenagers are reading can be a daunting task. Reading is so often a big part of our kids’ lifestyle and something we want to encourage. A Chabad library is full of content approved books.
An active Shifra and Puah women’s group takes care of new mothers with fresh hand delivered breakfasts and extra help in the house.
